Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2015 ended on Saturday (31st Oct) and I am still reeling from the hangover. Those Models, those Designers and oh, that Haute Couture? Who can get over that?
Elegance, Glamour, Sophistication. All these words are synonymous with ‘almost all’ the designers’ collections. Collections boasting intricate embroidery, detailed beading, and even woven raffia cannot be wrong. And as if my mind wasn’t already in glam overload, the colour palettes sent me into a state closer to euphoria.
Okay: But the simple fact is, not everyone can “love” everything equally, all of the time.
So, here are the LFDW Spring/Summer 2016 Pieces that caused me to say a small, inward “hurrah”. (In no particular order of course)
MEENA The Nigerian label from Uju Offiah presented an imminently wearable LFDW collection that was at-once youthful, inventive and timeless. She got me with all those structures, layers and ruffles.
TIFFANY AMBER Tiffany’s collection was svelte. Smart, sexy modern. I love it!
SOPHIE ZINGA The Senegalese designer just took my breath… And don’t let me start with those cowries as buttons.. Fabric is exquisite!
P.O.C P.O.C brought his ‘A game’ on this one. He redefined the way kaftan is worn.
MAI ATAFO Amazing! The collection also included womenswear. Prompting extra love from me.
APRIL BY KUNBI This collection is so romantic and elegant!
TOJU FUYEH Toju brought her ‘hat game’ with the “beguile” collection. And her Audience were charmed indeed. “If you love those hats say “Aye”. “The Ayes have it”.
MC MEKA Mc Meka presented a smart, balanced collection. And those sharply cut menswear pieces though. I say “Yes” “Yes” “Yes”. Although, those last two are from his previous collection. :p
VEDEL I’ve got just a word “Beautiful”.
ONWUCHEKWA Here we’ve got the perfect blend of fabrics and texture in one. Clean, different, edgy and fashion forward.
MOOFA I loved Moofa’s breezy, colourful, fun collection.
WUMAN Beautiful pieces from Wuman. The hand-painting on those fabrics? One of those WOW moments.
DEJI ENIOLA Aso oke and velvet jackets. Clean lines!
ADE BAKARE The Maasai inspired collection (Haute Couture). I’m obsessed with the shimmer.
MO’ FARI This is a statement! The most beautiful statement.
JOSH SAMUELS Polka dots… Nice!
ANDREA IYAMAH It’s no wonder the Nigerian designer has a best-selling swimwear line in west Africa. (If not in Africa that is)
KENNETH IZE “Let’s get back to the root”. Fringes!
AKPOS OKUDU Va-va-voom!
LANRE DASILVA AJAYI Sleek!
My love for fashion once again was renewed. Thanks guys!
